Chibis Self-Portraits
Japanese Art Style
Students were introduced to the Japanese art style called Chibi; meaning small and cute. Students explored examples and discussed the cultural phenomena of chibis. They created a self-portrait in the chibi style. They had to include a geometric background, chibi proportions, a cute pose, and be dressed in a style that represents their personality. Students utilized the elements/principles of design: form, proportion, emphasis, line, and space. They learned how to mix skin tones with acrylic paint and apply it to their chibi. They also learned about the glazing technique to create highlights and shadows.
