Wayne Theibaud Sweet Treats

Nostalgic Desserts

Students were introduced to the artist Wayne Theibaud. They learned about consumerism and nostalgia in the American culture. Inspired by Theibaud, they created their own painting of their favorite treat when they were younger. Students practiced mixing and matching colors to a photograph of their chosen treat. They then applied blending techniques to create a "ombre" background and create form within their treats. Students used the elements/principles of design: form, proportion, texture, space, and color. Students were encouraged to exaggerate and change colors just like Theibauds style.
